not what you were expecting

so i know that i promised a report on the scavenger hunt but i have been fighting these computers both last night and tonight and sadly they have won. they have defeated my intentions of posting pictures by deleting them....maybe later you'll get a view of them (or check out elaine's blog-a-roo and i know she has a pretty good report on the fun we had!)

Let me just tell you about my spanish classes. I walked in Day 1 and Daniel, my teacher began speaking to me in Spanish. no big deal, i can understand a little bit when i am with my friends during the afternoons and evenings so i was not too concerned, except he happens to be the hardest person to understand ever because he speaks part catalan. awesome.

we went through the alphabet after 20 minutes of him talking because i finally convinced him that i truly have never studied spanish. alphabet, numbers through 20, and the members of the family were on the agenda of what was to be learned. perfect! i loved learning these words. we spent about an hour on those fun topics (most of it was him writing words on the board because i couldn't understand his mumbling and he refused to speak a word of english to me-which is good that means i will have to learn) he left and gave me a 10 minutes break where i went and sat outside to watch the people pass by and when i returned he had an exam for me to take.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? AN EXAM? how ridiculous! this exam has 3 essays, 7 verb tenses, prepositions and comparisons. he fully expected to complete this exam in one how. boy was he surprised when i was finished in about 7 minutes!!!! not because i'm a spanish whiz, but because that is how long it took me to read the whole exam, decide if i had something to contribute and making something up. he was dissatisfied and handed it back to me so i resorted to conjugating verbs with french endings and writing comparisons in english and things of this nature.

what an overwhelming first day of class. not to mention my homework was to write a 250 word essay! i don't know where he thinks these 250 words are coming from other than a dictionary.

your reward for reading this is to see my favorite person i encountered on saturday: his name is Bruno and he sure knows how to have a good time!!
Day 2: wasn't much different except i learned nationalities and countries....whew that is sure to be an awesome conversation starter with my new spanish friends! instead of taking an exam on day 2, i got to write a 300 word essay....seriously daniel needs to get with the program and realize that he needs to teach me verbs and vocabulary before i will write for him. i gave him 74 of my best words and called it a day!

on a different note: the house is finally all coming together. tomorrow night we have our kick off party at the house. it should consist of pinchos, drinks, fellowship and i'm not sure of what else. pray that people will come, will experience the love of Christ, be drawn into the community here and whatever else comes to you when you are praying.
