today i woke up and decided i would go to class....though it was truly a debate in my mind. i finally realized that going to class was only going to benefit me because it would only further my understanding of spanish and help me with everything in spain so i got up and went. after the first hour and 15 minutes Simone decided to show up. that sure was nice of her. it gave my brain a quasi-break. then on wednesday my Rebecca teacher said she would not be here on friday so she gave me some homework to turn in monday. sweet, i thought, i love having days off from class. i didn't want to just assume that i did not have class so i thought i would ask the secretary, Paz [pronounced Pah-th] to be sure.
i mustered up all the spanish knowledge i had and marched to her desk and made sure [in spanish!!!] that because Rebecca was not here today, i would not have class. Paz was in somewhat of a hurry, or just did not want to give me a moment of her time (either could have been the fact) and mumbled something and was out the door. well that was all the convincing i needed to go home and enjoy the rest of my morning!
i exited this very door and went for a nice run around the river, cleaned up, read, and worked on some homework. i needed to email man real quick, so i thought i would drop by school since it is less than a minute from my house. when i was working on her email Paz popped her head into the room with the two computers and asked why i wasn't in class. i promptly responded to her that in all her mumblings and positive agreement to my statement of not having class, i didn't think we had class. little did i know that i had missed 1.5 hours of my afternoon classes and had to walk into my last class 30 minutes late. when i walked in i had to figure out how to apologize to my teacher and tell her what happened and endure 30 more minutes of listening for the morning.i think back on the whole situation now and realize...maybe she really did tell me i had class. maybe i just wanted her to tell me i didn't so that is what i chose to hear. maybe next time i'll understand the spanish words that come out of someones mouth!
